Although immigration laws are born of federal legislation, state laws can assist youth who do not have lawful immigration status. For example, state laws can provide access to IDs, financial aid, state benefits, and create more readily accessible legal processes that can help youth address some immigration-related challenges, such as Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) status.”
